We now turn to one of the most exciting horses stabled in Dubbo, the Kody Nestor Racing trained Cardiff.

Currently on the 5th line of betting in the TAB Kosciuszko futures market at $15 (can get more with a little shopping) this talented sprinter has the form and pedigree to warrant this recent market support. With his Sire and Dam (Snitzel and Cariad respectively) both having Group and Listed race-level success he has been bred to succeed in this Class.

This wouldn’t be the horses first trip to the big-time either, having already started in the Group 1 Coolmore Stakes at Flemington and running 2nd in a Listed race over 1200m at Randwick, while under the traineeship of Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou.

Cardiff’s most recent start was in a $75K Bm90 at Doomben in April where the gelding had to settle into the race outside of his preferred spot and really work into the run. He ended up powering in front in the closing stages of the race and streaked in for the win with what looked to be fuel left in the tank. Combine that with his recent trial win at Dubbo and there is nothing to suggest Kody won’t have Cardiff in winning form again this prep.

Cardiff’s early speed should put him in a position to salute from any barrier and with a win on every type of surface the weather shouldn’t phase the 5yo on the day.

The training and ownership group have their eyes firmly set on The Kosciuszko with part-owner Chris Davis saying  “Everything we’re doing with Cardiff is to have him at his peak come October 15th”.

Kody Nestor also has extreme confidence in the gelding saying “I am really excited about what he’ll do this prep and hopeful for the opportunity to get a start”.

Cardiff will have his first up start this prep in the coming weeks mostly likely in a midweeker in Sydney and if he puts another win on the board it will be hard to see him missing out on a slot.

The Dubbo Turf Club is proud to have a herd of locally-trained horses that are chances for a Kosciuszko start and wish all involved the best of luck this Spring Racing Carnival.
